Chris Lloyd transferred to Thales Australia in October 2007 to head up the FFG Frigate Upgrade Program, Thales Australia’s largest and most complex prime contract. Prior to this, Chris worked for Thales UK with overall responsibility for UK Naval Programs including Thales involvement in the UK Aircraft Carrier Program.
Chris has spent his entire career in the Marine business working for a range of organisations such as the UK MoD, British Maritime Technology (BMT), Marconi and BAE Systems. This has included a number of key technical roles: technical director of Yarrows (Glasgow) and Vickers (Barrow in Furness) Shipyards involved in the development and delivery of programs such as Trident and Astute submarines, T23 Frigates, LPH and LPDs, and engineering director for the Type 45 Destroyer overseeing the design development of the ship from concept to start of construction. Chris was also instrumental in the development of the UK maritime consultancy – BMT including their assessment of the Herald of Free Enterprise capsize and the development of a new generation of CAD/CAM system that was subsequently acquired by Kockums (now Tribon).
Chris trained as a naval architect with the MoD Royal Corps of Naval Constructors obtaining a 1st Class BSc and MSc at University College London.
