Mike’s 32 year naval career included command of three submarines and the Fleet Replenishment ship, HMAS SUCCESS. His last role in the RAN was as the Commander of the Australian Submarine Group and the Senior Defence Officer in WA (2001 – 2004). He retired in the rank of Commodore in 2005.

Awards include the Conspicuous Service Cross and the Australian Service Medal with Special Operations clasp.

Mike has a wealth of experience in Defence Industry previously holding senior executive roles with L3 Nautronix and Raytheon.

In September 2015 he took up the challenge to lead the fledgling defence arm of Civmec. It was after only a short time that Mike recommended to the Civmec Board that the company should acquire the name and assets of Forgacs. Based in Newcastle NSW, Forgacs was Australia’s largest privately owned shipbuilding and ship maintenance business. Mike took up the position of Managing Director of the reborn Forgacs Marine and Defence and restructured the business in preparation to make the company a stand out business capable of competing with the world’s best in shipbuilding and ship maintenance.

Past Board roles include Directorships with the Pilbara Ports Authority and Dampier Port Authority, Deputy Chair of the Governing Council of Challenger Institute and member of the WA State Training Board

He is a past President and Executive Director and is currently Vice President of the Submarine Institute of Australia and Patron of the Submarine Association of Australia, WA Branch.

Mike will take up the position as the Western Australian Agent General to the UK and Europe, based in London, in July 2018.

Mike’s interests include scuba diving, cycling and ocean yacht racing and he has completed numerous offshore yacht races including four Sydney to Hobart Races.

He is a devoted husband and father, married to Jenny, they have three adult children and six grandchildren.
