Bringing Dutch superyacht building know-how to Australia, Sander Toonen joined Silver Yachts in March 2020. Starting out as Project Technical Manager, Sander was promoted to the position of Chief Operations Officer following the retirement of Dave Woods in December 2020.

Originally a mechanical engineer, Sander spent the last twenty years working in the yachting industry. After starting his long career in the yachting industry at Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands, he spent years working onboard motor yachts as an engineer in both the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

With the desire to start a family, Sander returned ashore and joined Hill Robinson Yacht Management in Antibes (France) as Technical Manager eventually returning to the Netherlands.

Before joining Silver Yachts, Sander worked for Amels (Damen Yachting) in Vlissingen, Netherlands. Joining to lead the team of 30 engineers for the Amels 242, Sander and his team laid the groundwork for this highly acclaimed series of 74-meter semi-custom motor yachts, of which 7 hulls have been sold to date.

Stepping up into the role of Design and Proposal Engineer in the Amels Design department, saw him working alongside the commercial director, visiting clients and adapting semi-custom yachts to clients’ requests.

With working for Silver Yachts, came the opportunity to live in Australia and take his wife Kylie (closer to) home.  As a family, they now live in Roleystone in the Perth hills, showing their two children a very different way of life.
