The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) has announced an impressive and diverse line-up of speakers for this year’s ASMEX 2021 conference to be held on Tuesday 18 May at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort on the Gold Coast.

ASMEX is the flagship marine industry conference in Australia held annually preceding the popular Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. Now in its 10th year, ASMEX continues to hold its reputation for providing quality industry information, lively discussion and valuable networking opportunities.

This year’s theme ‘Demonstrating Strength and Resilience’ will examine the recent growth across the Australian marine industry spanning the expansion in exports, the increase in commercial builds and the growth in size of the domestic superyacht fleet. 

Peter Munckton, Chief Economist and Head of Market Strategy for Bank of Queensland will present on the post-Covid Australian economy covering the impact of the upcoming budget, house prices and the Australian dollar.  Margy Osmond, CEO, Tourism and Transport Forum will join ASMEX this year to discuss domestic tourism and the high-yield focus.

The ‘Export Panel’ will centre on the Australian marine export industry and how it is positioned in the changing geo-political landscape. Panellists’ will share their experiences on how their businesses adapted to accommodate the growth in 2020 and will discuss expected future growth trends and challenges. Panellists include Peter Dowdney, Australasian Sales Manager for Ronstan International and Kane Bygrave, Aurora Global Logistics.

Martin Baum, Managing Director, Pantaenius Yacht Group will deliver an update from the European superyacht industry including the future format of some the larger boats show hosted in Europe.

Ryan Carmichael, Co-Founder and COO of The Whiskey Project Group will present on the development of innovative defence solutions through his company’s new hull designs and builds for the defence sector.

The conference will also examine the electrification of vessels across the industry with presentations and a panel discussion covering both Australian and overseas development in electric or hybrid electric recreational vessels and what the knock-on effect of electrification means for vessels. The panel will be comprised of representatives from Volvo Penta, Marine Protection Systems and E-Class Outboards. 

As a regional focus, ASMEX 2021 will take a deep dive into Western Australia presented by Chris Blackwell, Sales & Marketing Manager, Echo Marine Group and W.A. Chair for Superyacht Australia, together with Sander Toonen, COO, Silveryachts.

David Good, CEO, Australian International Marine Export Group will update the industry on superyacht visitations statistics, the overall growth in the domestic charter fleet and where the trends are taking the industry.  Captain Richard Morris, Managing Director, Australian Superyachts will present on importing superyachts into Australia.

ASMEX 2021 will kick off with the City of Gold Coast Welcome Drinks hosted on Monday 17 May in the Sanctuary Cove Marine Village.  The social highlight of ASMEX 2021 is the Australian Marine Industry Awards Gala Dinner to be held in the evening on Tuesday 18 May after the close of the conference.

The Gala Dinner celebrates industry excellence in the Marine Export, Commercial Marine, and Superyacht industries. This event is a popular evening and provides an opportunity to acknowledge high achievers in the industry and for the marine industry overall to celebrate their contributions.
